Default [Resolved] 'USB device not recognized' error

Hello,

I recently bought a USB adaptor that allows me to use PS2/Gamecube/Xbox controllers with my PC (3 in 1 Magic Joy Box--Connect PS/PS2, GC, XBox game controller to your PC), and had a bit of trouble getting it working. I downloaded the drivers from the manufacturer's site, and still had no luck; I got USB device not recognized errors whenever I plugged it in. So I went into C:\Windows\inf, found the newly 'installed' files and had to run the .inf's. After that it worked for a while, then today I got the same error again. After uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, even formatted my PC (it needed doing anyway ), I still have no luck getting it to work. Could it be a hardware malfunction or does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there, and welcome to PCHF, can you verify that the .inf file exists in the inf folder in C:\WINDOWS

Did you also follow these directions:

Please follow this order:
Connect your game controller to the 3 in 1 Magic Joy Box first,
then insert the 3 in 1 Magic Joy Box to your PC USB.
If you change the order, the hardware will not be found in the Game Interface of your PC.

Yep I followed that order every time.

Both the "NgcpadT.inf" and the "Xpad.inf" files are still in the inf directory (those are the only two I can see in the install log).

Thanks for the fast response!

Ok, could you try this, navigate to Control Panel and double click on "Add New Hardware" Wizard. Click Next and let the wizard search for devices. Click "Yes i have already connected the hardware" and click Next. If you dont see the device in the list, highlight "Add New Device" and click Next. Click "Install The Hardware That I Manually Select From A List" and click Next. Highlight "Sound, Video & Game Controllers" and click Next. Now click "Have Disk" and locate the inf file(s) and click next to install the device.

Tried that, get the message The specified location does not contain information about your device. In device manager it appears as an Unknown Device under USB controllers, if that's any help

Thanks again.

Right click on that device and choose update driver, and see if that solves it

That brings me to the Hardware update wizard - if I try automatically searching it says there were no better matches than currently installed, and if I try specifying the location of the inf files it says The specified location does not contain information about your hardware (again ).

It just seems to me that Windows isn't associating the installed drivers (if they are actually installed) with the device when it's plugged in. Not sure how to fix that though, or if it's even right.
