Still no luck with that, but I did get something. When I try plugging in and using an Xbox controller it works perfectly - recognizes the adapter and can install the drivers perfectly. Just tried again with the Gamecube one afterwards and it's not recognized though :/

Unfortunately -- you are not alone...
seems to be a chronic issue with XP.

I just saw a post which says to try shutting down your computer, and then unplugging it from the mains.
Wait about a minute, plug it back in and turn on.

Long shot but it might work!

Hehe, plugged it in today on the off chance that it would work and straight away "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use". No idea why it works now, but thanks everyone for your help
