Default xp setup no mouse

a friend brought me her pc (hp552x)to fix after she had done a complete destructive recovery-only it didnt recover and she had no backup. i have contended with 1 error after another and 1 stop message after another for a week now and finaly got to windows setup. only now the mouse wont work. it has been working right up until now(and works fine on my pc) it is a logitech optical, was working with the usb connection and i also have a dinn adapter that i have tried but doesnt work(didnt expect it to without restarting). the thing is, i got this far once before and same thing happened and then couldnt get back to this point without a lot of trouble, so pc is sitting on "how should dates and currency appear" because i cant click on "next". the keyboard tab will move over to "next" but pressing enter doesnt do anything. is a dinn adapter the same as dinn connecting mouse, if i bought a mouse with dinn connector(can you still?) would it work without restarting pc, or is that even the problem? i am going nuts!

Hi TH...

Might be worth a shot to contact HP
According to what I found -- the recovery Discs for this model can still be purchased.($12.08 USD ?) There were only 2 versions of this PC-- make sure to check the model number. (9808A & 9808AR)

HP PartSurfer

Let us know what happens, please....

Also - when you get errors during Windows XP setup, it generally means you have bad memory - it might be worth a shot to test it with Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic
