Default Headset Acting Funny. Help! ><

Hi, I just recently bought an Altec Lansing Gaming headset and I'm having issues with it. I dont think its the headset itself but the settings I have my computer at. Theres a few different things wrong.

1. When I speak I hear myself a second later (like an echo). If its supposed to do this I can get used to it but its pretty annoying.

2. When I talk, people just barely hear me. I have the little switch on the side to "High" and I have the Recording volume all the way up (thats the only volume I could find that made it louder) and people can tell im talking but its too quiet to tell what im saying. I hear myself loud and clear (in the echo) but everyone else has a hard time. I also went the the Mic check thats used for Steam games and it showed I was talking but the bar barely moved at all.

3. For it to work I have to go to Volume > Options > Properties > Recording > and then click the "Microphone" check box at the bottom and then it works but often the check will go away without me touching it and then the mic wont work. I looked for a way to set it better for 45 minutes yesterday night and couldnt find anything.

I looked on the official Altec website for answers to these problems and I couldnt find anything. Helps me! Oh and the Headset is completely new. So im pretty sure its not that.

Hi John and welcome to PCHF

Where do you plug your microphone in?

Also the most likely cause of the first problem is Microphone boost is on - to turn it off follow these steps:

1. Control Panel
2. Speech (Classic View)
3. Audio Input
4. Volume
5. Click Advanced under microphone
6. Uncheck Mic Boost
7. Close
8. OK
9. OK

And thats it
