Default [Answered] Portable IM device?

My friend sometimes over IM tells me that she cannot follow links and stuff because she's on a handheld device designed to use AIM and other instant messengers through her wireless router. I think that could be really handy for me because I sometimes want to talk to my friends when others are using my computer. Is there really such a device? I can't seem to find one online...

The device is probably a mobile/cell phone or a PDA You can connect to IM apps on some of these.

She says it's only use is to send IMs and it has a greyscale screen and such... I'll have to ask her next time she's on
