Ideally all computers should be on their own , seperate, grounded receptacle to HELP prevent things like this. But when a static charge from an outside source(his body) comes in contact with a component, it sometimes discharges through the component on its way to ground. (the keyboard itself is not grounded, but the cable is shielded and the circuit board is tied to ground thru it. The charge had to go thru the circuit board to get to ground.)Thats one reason why its recommended to discharge yourself by touching the metal part of the case before working on the inside of your computer(or any other electronic device. Ive seen other devices damaged from static discharge(memory,
cpu), but this is the first keyboard ive heard about. Congratulations AW_3_3 , i think youre the first on the forum to do that. LoL
