Default Pentium III Slot 1 Help!

I recently got a used PIII running @ 1.0 GHz off Ebay for $20 + $5 for shipping from some guy who has near perfect feedback. So I got it today without the heatspreader and put it in my computer. I turn it on and the Bios won't load, telling me that my processor is messed up. So can anyone help me? Someone asked me if my mobo works with the CPU/FSB but I don't know how to check. Anyone help...please?

howdy xxsniperxx and Welcome To PC Help forum

I take it when you say "heatspreder" you mean a heatsink correct?

You need a heatsink and or a fan or the cpu will burn up.

Do you have the details of your motherboard? Make and model..

It should say somwhere on the motherboard what type of cpu it takes like an AMD or Intel etc etc. Let us knw what type of motherboard you have and we will look into it,.

what is the motherboard, make and model? If it is a 1ghz it is likely a 133mhz FSB model. What does the screen tell you? ANd make sure you put the heatsync on it or it will likely destroy your processor within minutes. Also, what CPU was in the computer before this one?

FYI to everyone..

If it's Slot1...then it can only be Intel...either Celeron or Pentium II or Pentium III upto 733 - there was never a p3 1ghz for slot1 that i've ever seen/heard of...perhaps he had it over clocked?

i think i may know what the problem is. I am pretty sure there is no slot1/1ghz model ever made. it is possible he has a Slot1/PGA370 adapter on it that doesnt support the mainboard, or 1ghz speed.

Oh I figured out it's not a heatspreader or a heatsink. It's a head aspload. It's a bunch of spiky stuff that kind of spreads out the heat...? Lol. The Processor is Intel and my mobo is a Dell Optiplex GX1. If you need the numbers after that, I need a link that scans my computer and tells me. I lost it.

ok, there are Slot1 running at 1ghz. however, there do not appear to be any 100mhz BUS ones. Your Mainboard only supports 66/100mhz FSB. This may be causing the problem beacause it is trying to run at a higher clock rate than the mainboard supports. i may be wrong though.
