It sounds to me like the Lexmark utilies have been uninstalled or unable to start. You should see a scanner icon at the bottom right hand corner next to the clock. In InfranView, can you go to File, Select TWAIN Source, and select your scanner from there. Then try to scan your document from InfanView.

You might try going to device manager and uninstalling it and the drivers, then reinstall it and see if that doesnt fix it. I have several of the Lexmark all in ones, when they start acting goofy, this usually fixes em. And like yours, one minute its working fine, and the next time you try to use it, something doesnt work. And their tech support is a joke without a punch line.

Check for any updates with the Lexmark CD, if not:

Try uninstalling the Lexmark completely and then reinstall it.

It would appear that for some reason the installation disk didn't install all the necessary files.Just uninstalled the printer and drivers, reboot then full re-install and it seems to be working so cheers !!!!
