Default [Fixed] laser mouse becoming unresponsive

What should I do with my laser mouse now that its become all unresponsive?I took away the mouse mat and that seemed to help a bit but its still not as good as it used to be.Ive tried different mouse mats but it stil works the best on my desk surface.
Is there any type of maintanace I can do on it?
Will cleaning it help and if yes how do you clean a laser mouse?
Its a Logitech MX1000.

Hi GSX1100,

The laser mice are sensative to reflective surfaces. Some mouse mats are only good for ball mice. If you have a mouse mat that has reflective light colours and then dark colours then this will make the cursor jump across the screen, when you move your laser between these colours on the mat!

The only real maintenance you can do to the mouse itself, is to use a lightly damp cloth to clean the lense. If you mouse starts to fail, then these mice only cost a couple of bob these days!

EDIT: Sorry Wolfey didn't realise you posted there.
EDIT: Simultaneous posting syndrome Monkey s'ok, Wolfey

FYI Guys - i used to have an MX1000...one of the first in australia got it for **** near $200AU - anyway...the MX1000 begins to degrade after a while...
the responsiveness, and the middle scrollwheel button becomes all dodgy.

I'd suggest buying one of the G7's if you want a laser cordless mouse still - they are much better.
