Default Mouse randomly freezes

I first noticed this problem maybe a couple months ago, and now it seems to be getting worse. My mouse freezes randomly and I don't know why. It usually happens when I'm using Internet Explorer. Maybe it's from the security upgrades I downloaded around the end of the summer (also many pages get the end program window popping up for no reason, making me exit). I think it freezes when I use Windows Media Player as well, but I usually have IE open so I think it's just that. The mouse usually freezes within 10 minutes of use.

I have been using Netscape right now for several minutes and nothing has happened yet. Also sometimes the mouse goes into a quick freeze (when using IE) but then returns, only to permanently freeze a little while later requiring me to restart to get it back to normal. I am certain this is a software issue. In the device manager it says the mouse is working properly.

I have Windows XP Home SP1
Dell Dimension 8200

Hi Frabbi,

you might be having a driver issue with the mouse. What mouse is it?

Intellimouse 1.3A PS/2 Compatible

It can't be a driver issue. I have been using Netscape since I posted this topic and it still hasn't frozen. It must be something with Internet Explorer.

It's amazing what drivers can do But we'll leave that alone as you're probably right.

Can you please follow the prework link in my signutre and post the resulting logs?
