Hi there,

More of a question rather than a problem.

The question is, should I permanantly leave my router on? It gets quite warm but I have heard that if you keep switching it off then your ip address just keeps renewing causing problems with interent connection etc. So is it safe to just leave it on?

Thanks,
Chris.

I leave mine on all the time and have done for the 4 years I have had it. The cat sleeps on top of it as it's the warmest place in the house.

Yep they are perfectly safe to be left on. All types of electrical equipment generate heat so don't worry about it. Unless you are a trying to save electricity by turning it off it would do it more harm than good.

Hey Chris!

You can safely keep it turned on, but it's also not wrong to turn it off.

The disadvantage of turning it off, is that you'll have to wait a short time when you turn it back on, before it's started up, and connected.

Also, a router doesn't eat that much power, so it won't affect your energy bill that much!

I'll mark this thread Answered, you're free to ask any more questions though.
