If you mean a few seconds like 2-4, then that's normal. The computer is getting the DVD drive started and processing the information from the DVD. Takes a good bit of processing power. I don't know how it is with every single processor, but I know my computer is the same way.

10-20 seconds might be a cause for investigation, but that also could be a result of your computer's specs.

more than 20, I'd suspect a problem.

As far as tweeking goes, never heard of something that could tweek that.

Let me know how the RAM testing goes.

Just put the 2nd stick in to test it.

Explorer crashed on loading so had to stop it and reload it. The test ran for half a minute and then started beeping, the result was:

CPU: 1862MHz FSB: 267MHz [310MHz x 6.0 est.]
CPU: 1862MHz FSB: 267MHz [310MHz x 6.0 est.]
27/09/2006 17:18 Beginning a continuous self-test to check your computer.
Press Stop to end this test.
Test 1, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922945 using 1024K FFT length.
FATAL ERROR: Resulting sum was 3228937569239040, expected: 5054854342360953
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
Torture Test ran 1 minutes 27 seconds - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted.

So it looks like this is the faulty stick, would this also then explain the resetting problem? And my final question when I put the replacement stick in, I have 4 slots 2 orange 2 purple O P O P Does it matter which slot the sticks go in ie do they both have to be in the orange or the purple or the first orange and purple etc?

Yep. You found the bad stick. That's definately the cause of your problems.

I have 4 slots 2 orange 2 purple O P O P Does it matter which slot the sticks go in ie do they both have to be in the orange or the purple or the first orange and purple etc?
The colors are just pretty. They must be contiguous though. So you would use the Orange and then the purple right after it. In addition, if you buy a larger stick than the one in it right now, you will have to put the bigger stick in the first slot.

Also, while you have it open, might as well give it a good cleaning with a can of compressed air.

NOTE: When cleaning with compressed air, if you clean the fans of your computer, don't shoot a steady stream of air on them, you could make them spin much faster than they were designed to go, and thus wear them out. Give short quick bursts instead.
