Default My Mouse has developed a life of its own - please please help

Aaaargh! I've had my computer three years over that time I've added and built onto it, updating it so forth. I run Windows XP (Prof. I think) and up until yesterday never had a problem with it. Think its worth saying that I've not updated/added for a while in terms of hardware but my housemates do sometimes use it so I don't know what they've added in terms of software.

Yesterday I was watching a dvd in nero, paused it to get get a refil and then went to click back to play..and the mouse went nuts on me.. it flies across the screen, clicks on random things..usually start up bar, task manager and outlook! it tries to close down my windows..it just goes mental. If I don't use it like now I can vaguely get by...but what can I do about my crazy mouse? I've tried everything I can think of! I've just tried system restore and it still does it, it took me nearly half an hour to get to this screen!

Please please help I've got a design project to finish in a few days and its impossible without my mouse!

Thank you!!!
Al (GMT)

Hi Al, welcome to the PCHF!

From what you're describing, I'd say it's someone playing funny ****** with your computer...they could be connecting remotely to it via many different programs.

If you can goto you task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and check for anything with VNC in the Processers scetion. If so, end that task as that is a remote connection utility which is very handy, and also very fun when you wanna play with someones mind.

Thanks for that list, it should give us an idea of what to do next.

If you can follow the steps located at the link below, and post the resulting logs back here - I'll ask one of the security guys to help out with it, as I believe this to be a malware issue.

Hya Agmphelan. Not much wrong there, and nothing that would cause the problem you are having I'm afraid.

Look in your add/remove programs and uninstall any of these if found:

MyWebSearch
MyWebSearch Email Plugin
MyWebSearch Search Assistant
MySearchBar
My Way Speedbar
Search Assistant - My Way
Fun Web Products

Delete these folders if found:

C:\Program Files\FunWebProducts
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch

Then run HijackThis , select to do a "system scan only" and then place a check beside each of the following:

O2 - BHO: IECatcher Class - {B930BA63-9E5A-11D3-A288-0000E80E2EDE} - C:\Program Files\Mass Downloader\MDHELPER.DLL (file missing)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...tml?p=ZNfox000
Now first close all windows and browsers other then HiJackThis , then click fix checked and close HijackThis.

And then reboot your pc.

Do you have an wireless and/or optical mouse maybe? And can you try it with an other mouse?

didn't find any of those, but ran the HiJackThis like you said. Rebooted. Still doing it. I don't have a wireless/optical one..would that be any better? Will try and borrow someones mouse to give it a go.. any ideas? (thanks by the way for your help so far tho!)

if trying a new mouse doesn't work can you think of anything else I can do?
