Default USB question.

Hello. I basically have an issue with transferring files from my comp to my mp3 player. When I plug it into the USB port, it shows that I've plugged a high-speed USB device into an non high-speed USB port. Is there some sort of device or cable that I can buy to fix this?

Thanks.

Hya GC27, welcome to PCHF.

That depends abit, what brand and model is your motherboard? Then we can have a look what kind of USB it has.

It could be as simple as a driver or windows update, but if the board doesn't support USB 2.0 then you could buy a USB 2.0 PCI card and use that instead.

Wecome to the forums GC27.

Joe is correct in saying that a driver/update might fix it - if - your board has USB 2.0

Another option is that most computer cases have USB at the front now, and the cables that connect those ports to the motherboard, don't always support USB 2.0, so if you're using the front ports, try using a couple of ones at the back.

Actually I do have 2 front ports and I believe 4 in the back...but after checking, I found a message that showed 'There are no HI-SPEED USB host controllers installed on this computer.'

So I suppose I should go after the card that Joe suggested...

Before you go spending money, what motherboard do you have?
