Default [Answered] Looking for Iomega mini-zipdisks

Hi All,

I hope this is the right place to post this request.

Because of some health problems, I can't go out much (on the mend now though) and someone gave me an old IBM Thinkpad 365XD, 40Mg RAM, 1 G Hardrive, 56k PC card modem, W98SE, which has become my only way of communicating with the outside world

Here is my problem:- I have an Iomega "Clik" Mini-Zipdisk pc card which takes 40Mg disks. As this model is no longer available, I am unable to buy replacement disks anywhere (even on the Net). Because of the small HD I need to store a lot of stuff.

Does anyone have any old mini zipdisks they are not using? I will be happy to pay for them (if they're not too expensive )

Thanks for listening? :-D

Hello and welcome to PCHF :-).

Unfortunately, I have no Mini Zip Disks and could not find them online. However, if you are willing to spend between $80 and $100 (USD) I have found a couple of refurbished items from Iomega that would be useful if you could not find any Mini Zip Disks

Refurbished Zip 750MB USB Powered External Hard Drive - $79.95 USD

Refurbished 120GB Iomega USB Desktop Hard Drive - $99.95 USD Best buy in my opinion

Thanks for the quick replies.

Here's the problem. This model Thinkpad is from the "pre-USB" era and doesn't have USB capabilities. It has a parallel port, a serial port and 2 pcmcia slots (one I use for my modem card and the other is the mini-zipdisk card).

Most of the newer stuff is USB only. :-(

I can only hope there is someone out there who has upgraded to the larger units but still has their old mini-disks lying around somewhere.

Thanks

Hmmm ..... interesting. I just have to check out if my old Thinkpad 365XD motherboard is "wired" to handle these conversion devices.?

Give me a day or so to find out.

So, this is what I found out;

Hosting a USB device requires a motherboard capable of supporting 32BIT (PCI) devices, my 365XD only supports 16BIT (ISA) devices. :

Nor can you use a PCMCIA card to USB solution as it requires a Cardbus enabled PC card slot which the 365XD lacks. :x

So, back to my search for these 40 Mb mini-zipdisks. If you come across a source, let me know.

Thanks
