I agree, this seems stupid... :|? Ok, so lets go back to basics.

1) Right click on the My Computer icon and select properties - select the hardware tab and then devices. Check that you have no devices with problems (mainly sound and game devices)

2) Go into Control Panel and select Sound and Audio devices > click on Advanced in Device Volume and select Options > Properties - click on the Recording "radio" button and make sure you have a tick in microphone.

3) Go to the Audio tab back in "Sound and Audio Devices" and select Volume under Sound Recording > make sure it isn't muted or low. You can also click on advanced in there and click on "Boost"

4) Check that the mic is plugged into the PINK socket in the sound card or the one with the mic symbol

done all that, looking at it it should be working but it aint, so spookie this

the mic works ive double checked that, all sounds on pc work fine, mic is enabled,

couldnt it be my virus proggy ? im useing mcAFEE 8 also i have firewall on on xp, apart from that thats it, its fresh install as well on formated the other day when i built new pc, but mic didnt work in old pc as well.
i can take screen shoots of my settings but dont know how i post em on here
