Trying to alter boot device priorities in my friend's Dell. I get into the BIOS by keying F2 but cannot alter any values using the left and right cursor arrows - the up and down arrows move me from one item to another fine but left and right arrows do not change any of the options (not just the one I want to change). Tried a different keyboard and the same. Pressing enter moves me to the next item. Insert does nothing. Any thoughts? Many thanks.

I thought with the early Dell's, to navigate to the next part of the Bios you used Alt-P...?

Alt-P moves you from page to page in the BIOS, only two pages in this PC's BIOS and alt-P does its job. Its altering the settings that I'm having problems with.

A couple of things I thought of...

1) Check that the keyboard isn't faulty - maybe the keys you are using don't work.

2) Re-set the BIOS on the motherboard. Eiter by means of a jumper or remove the BIOS battery (big watch type thing) and the power for a minute then put the battery back in + the power and go back into the BIOS.

3) Flash the BIOS to the latest version (ask if you need help with this).
