Default [Fixed] Right mouse click causes error

I have had a problem with right clicking on my hard drive while in my computer. I get a microsoft error. It tells me that the program will shut down. Then it freezes and under task manager it says my computer not responding. I can open the hard drive and go as deep as I want into files, but I can not right click on any of them. I can right click on all my other drives. I tried doing a system restore back to as far back as it would let me go. No help. I have ran every spyware/ anti virus software I know. All I can figure is it is a problem with something in windows.

I am running windows xp home sp-2. I have a pentium 4 with a 2.6 mhz processor, and 1gig of ram.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dharma

Default Right mouse click causes error

1. Have you try changing your mouse ?
2. Please check your mouse property .
2a - are the mouse driver loaded ?

What type of mouse are you using ?
there are 3 types - port / usb / ps2

After trying step 1 + 2 + 2a and the result are good and satisfactory Please use another working mouse via a different port. In order to know... the mouse or the port problem.

my sense tell me ... it must be the mouse or the USB port even you have not indicated that the mouse you are using is a USB mouse.

please try and good luck.

Default Right mouse click causes error

Welcome to PCHF DHARMA!

If explorer crashes everytime you right click, you are probably seeing the incompatibility between the current version of divx and SP2. This is being reported by multiple people.

Divx is a video compression technology that many people have installed on their system.

The divx people are working on it. You can reference their forums posts regarding the subject here:

I have edited the title of this post to help others that may be searching for a similar solution.

Default Right mouse click causes error

I had a similar problem to this a while ago when I was running service pack 1. I tried everything but nothing would work to fix the error. I eventually realised that it was the new nvidia driver that I downloaded from the windows update site. I rolled back the driver for my graphics card and downloaded the same driver from a differnent source, installed it and it worked fine.
