Unhappy Keyboard works in DOS, stops during windows install

I have a Compaq Presario 5108us. It has been formatted to do a clean install. I do not have factory restore disks. It came from factory with Windows ME originally. I have tried installing Windows 95, W98, and ME. The keyboard works fine until any of the Windows installation screens come on screen. The mouse works for button clicking and so on but once you reach the window to enter your name and serial number the keyboard is'nt working so you can't complete the installation. I have tried installing from the CD, tried copying files to the harddrive and installing from there but still get the same result. I am using a ME upgrade disk and it is not requesting proof of previous ownership of a windows product it simply says 'must be run from windows'. I have search high and low. Can anyone help please! Thanks!

Hi, it is just an ordinary ps2 HP internet keyboard. I have tried 2 others both with the same result, they stopped working too.

Were they also PS/2 or were they USB?
Have you been into the BIOS to reset all settings to default/failsafe?
