Default Laptop randomly not registering key presses.

I have a Compaq nx9600 laptop. All of a sudden, it's randomly dropping letters when typing. It's not always the same letter, it will just drop a few letters from a typed sentence (like it's not registering the keypress). I tried plugging in a USB keyboard and that works fine. I tried removing the keyboard driver and letting Windows reinstall but it made no difference. Our company pushed out a security patch on Friday (last time it was working normally), so I tried a system restore to last Thursday but it didn't make a difference. Any ideas? Thanks.

lets try something that you should do once a week. get a can of caned air and spray under the keys of your keyboard and see if any thing comes out . If there is any dirt under the key sometimes they will not work. And by moveing the keyboard the dirt can move around .can not say this will stop the problem but it wont hurt .

When I did the system restore, it must have removed the patch as after 10 minutes I was prompted to re-install it. During those 10 minutes however I still had the same keyboard problem.

Is there an option to disable this patch instead of installing it?
