Hello

Hopefully I'm posting this in the correct section of your site. 'Hardware' seems the best fit to me, but I may well be wrong.

Recently when I was using my computer it totally crashed and flashed up a sign saying something about how it had switched itself off to prevent damage. Since then, it seems to run okay, broadly speaking, although I think it seems slower than it was previously. There are two problems though:

1) I had a broadband internet connection that would work automatically the moment I opened internet explorer. Now, however, it insists that I'm 'working offline' and although I then click 'connect', it doesn't work.

2) Oddly, the internet still works fine in 'Guest' mode. But if I leave the computer for a couple of minutes and the screensaver comes up, it just freezes on the screen and I'm forced to press the reset button.

As you can imagine, this is really inconvenient and annoying! I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, if that helps.

I'd really be massively grateful if anyone could help me out with this!

When you say Do you mean a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death)?

No, I don't get that any more. All I find is that if I leave my computer long enough for the screensaver to come up, it will simply freeze and not respond to anything, so that I just have to press the reset button.
