Well, I am on my sister's computer and it's pretty much been destroyed by god knows what she's done to it. I tried to get a hijackthis log, but the instructions didn't make any since to me.

It's a windows 2000 Dell... and I have no idea what's wrong with this computer other than it is in serious need of help. Nothing runs properly.

Hi, these instructions might be a little easier.

1. Please download HijackThis from Trend Micro and save it to your desktop.
2. Double click on HJTInstall.exe to install it. Click on Install. By default, it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
3. Read through the License Agreement presented to you on the next screen and click on I Accept.
4. Once installed, HijackThis will start automatically. If it doesn't, please go to your desktop and double click on the HijackThis shortcut created there.
5. Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.
6. When the logfile opens, copy and paste it here.
7. Close HijackThis.

Note: Do not click on the AnalyzeThis button.

Do not fix any lines you see in HijackThis as most entries are harmless and needed for the normal functioning of Windows.

I will move this to the HijackThis logs forum once you get a log posted so that someone from the Security Team can help you.

Here it is. By the way, I have no idea what is on this computer, so if things exist like limewire let me know and I'll delete it.

Ok.We need to download ComboFix.exe. This will give a better view to the files running and also hidden on your computer and also those in the registry.
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you. Please copy and paste the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new 'HijackThis' log so that we can continue to do any further cleaning that your system may require.
Caution: Never run and remove files with Combofix unless supervised by a qualified security analyst who is experienced in the use of Combofix. Mal use can cause serious computer problems
NOTE: Combofix prevents autorun of all CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you - please let me know.

what happens if you dont have windows xp and do not have the CD's? Do you just not have to worry about that part?
