Default Some programs won't open
I just recently have a couple of bad viruses that I have now gotten rid of, but now I am having a problem opening some programs/icons. Some open and others don't. It's pretty random as to which ones will open and which one's don't. Is there something I can do to scan and get these programs to open?

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

I have a few sugestions.
Are you sure the virus has gone?
The prework link in pink below maybe a good idea.Just to make sure.

A virus may of caused some damage.
You could try a repair install.

Reboot/restart computer on post screen you will be prompted to pres F1/F2/Del to enter BIOS then press this key wich ever is apropriate to your computer.Locate boot tab and set first boot to CD/DVD rom put in operating disk and F10 save and exit.
Do not press R at first prompt just let it go on and agree to license F8 and let the repair run.

Or recovery console.This is almost the same as repair but you press R at first prompt. then agree to license F8.

However you may of got some terrible damage that may not be repairable.There for I would then sugest say as many files you can to an external drive/CD/DVD etc.
Then do a complete reinstall of your operating system.

Well I'm pretty sure it's gone, but that may be why they won't open. I have a Dell computer and tried to put in the reinstallation cd, but it said that the xp version on my computer was newer than the one on my cd, so I cancelled it. I will try doing what you suggest and see what happens.

Does the disk have service pack 2 slipstreamed on it?The problem maybe the disk has no sp on it or sp1,your pc may have sp2?

Uninstall service pack and then try again.

You receive an error message if you try to run a 32-bit Windows Setup program while you are running a Windows x64 Edition-based operating system

btw JB, u can still run a XP Disk with SP1 on it even if the PC has SP2...
