I only recently decided to look into the Computer Management records, and in the Event Viewer under Applications, there is nothing but a sea of red flags; the whole damn thing!. They all (99.5%) list the "wuaueng.dll" as the problem file for many different reasons, for example:
"wuaueng.dll(784) Database recovery/restore failed with unexpected error - 543"
Does ANYONE have any idea what these mean?
Bottom line:
- Physycally the computer shows no signs of deterioration.
- I thought the RAM might have gone bonkers and I replaced it to no avail.
- The HD has been confirmed healthy by Spinrite and Maxtor's Powermax
- Fresh installations of Windows have not worked.
- There's no other software on it, except McAfee AV, since it's pretty unreliable so no problems stemming from that.
- There IS an IRQ conflict listed in Systems Information, but it IS NOT listed in Control Panel> System>Hardware>Device Manager like an IRQ conflict would normally show itself. I was told somewhere that sometimes it's OK for parts to share IRQ's, though I'm not sure.
- The only thing left, and last possible explanation for all this, is the completely red page on my applications history logs. This "wuaueng.dll" problem is the only bit I have to identify that something is actually wrong. This is the end....
