Default building new pc

i am going to build a new pc, but i am not sure which one should i pick, Intel or AMD.

i want a above average speed, around $600, and Sli or Crossfire.

currently on my mind:

-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775

-ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

-CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 * 2 pairs*

-XCLIO GOODPOWER 500W ATX Power Supply

-EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI 2/SLi*

-Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme CPU Cooler * or use my old one, water+air combined cooler*

ps: does 500W good enought for SLi system?

You want above average speed? For gaming I'm assuming since you want SLI?

2x 8600GT is worthless.
The motherboard you picked should be alright though.

Here's a better build:

Same motherboard.
Vid: 2x Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N861-AR GeForce 9600GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards (They scale extremely well in SLI, bests performance of a 8800GTX)
Mem: Newegg.com - GeIL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory (Newegg.com - GeIL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory 4Gbs.. I recommend, though 2Gbs will do you fine, even on Vista )
PSU: Newegg.com - OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V CB, CE, CSA, UL, FCC - Power Supplies
CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - CPUs / Processors (or Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - CPUs / Processors but it's got a slower FSB and much more expensive.. though it's not a significant performance boost unless you want to do massive multitasking on the desktop)

You don't need PCIe 2.0 x16 to run the card(s), I run both of my 9600GTs on the standard x16 PCIe 1.0 slots on my 680i motherboard.
The cards are PCIe 2.0 capable, but will run happily on standard PCIe x16

If 2x 9600GT is too expensive, then I suggest you buy just 1 9600GT or 1 8800GT. As either of those cards, even by themselves, will easily smoke 2x 8600GT or 8600GTS in SLI
