Default [Resolved] USB webcam problem

I'm on Vista and was using a webcam which was working fine, then i got a message about the device being unidentified, hasn't worked since and doesn't register when i connect it. I've reinstalled the cam and it says the "camtool" is running when i try to start it.
Also if i connect to the usb ports at the back of my computer it freezes or won't start up.

Hi Chris, welcome to PCHF
Do you by any chance know the make/model number of the webcam? If so, I will help you find the latest drivers for it.
Another thing you could try is when it says the camtool is running, go to task manager by right clicking the toolbar and selecting Task Manager.
Then select the processes tab at the top and look at that list for anything gonig by the name of camtool.exe or something similar such as the make of your webcam.

Matt

It's a Mikomi m6219.

I reinstalled it again and it's just coming up a blank screen when i try to view the cam.

It doesn't say the tool is running now, i tried to open the video monitor or AMCAP and the preview just shows blank.

Cheers

Hi Chris.
From what i've read on the internet, Mikomi don't have any Vista compatible drivers. One source is here how to mend it .com - Were can I find drivers for my Mikomi Webcam drivers M6219 for Vista?
Someone commented "Ming Jong (Mikomi) Have not bothered to make any new up to date drivers for their webcams so that they will work with Vista. The last drivers they made were for XP.

This is very annoying! I have sent several emails too them asking to make the drivers but no response, poor customer support!

I don't see why I should have to go out and buy a new camera when I have a perfectly good one here.

COMPLAIN!.."
Also trying to access the page which did have drivers on doesn't appear to work anymore http://www.mingjong.com.tw/eipe/fron...ategory=100012

So sadly it seems like a lost cause for using that webcam on Vista. I'd advise to go and purchase a new webcam and make sure there are the correct vista drivers for it.

Matt

Thanks for your help.

It worked fine for a few months up until the other week, so there is a way to have it working, just dunno what went wrong with it.

Ok what you could try is plugging in your webcam, going to device manager (Right click Computer - Properties and then click Device manager on the left).
Then under the Sound, video and game controllers (i'm presuming that's where the webcam will be, i've never owned one) right click the webcam and select update driver software.
Then click Search the internet and see if it finds anything. If not, open add and remove programs and make sure all instances of the Mikomi webcam drivers/software have been uninstalled. Then in Device Manager right click the webcam and select uninstall.
Restart your PC and the next time you boot insert the webcam, install the drivers and see if it works.
