[Resolved] Printing Problem
So some of you know i had problems with my computer (see my previous threads) it turns out it was the harddrive and it failed, but i got a a new one and my computer is fixed now. I got it back about 2 weeks ago? However i noticed that under "properties/settings my monitor is called plug n play now? Wasn't called that before?
Anyhow, i want to know why i can't print anything. I get the normal print "thing" when i go to file "print" but after i hit print i get a window and it shows "save the file as" and it wants me to save it somewhere (it's an XPS document) What is this, i never got this before?

Re: Printing Problem
Hey Jmaster, please don't double post your threads, we just deleted another 4 other them.
Unless there is any specific need to, which I cannot think of any, if you go to any PC, most of our monitors have the default plug and play driver installed. This is normal.
As for your printer, this is what you need to do:
- Go to Start, Printers and Faxes.
- Make sure there is a black tick next to your printer. This signifies your default printer. If the tick is assigned to another device, then right click on your printer, and select Set as Default Printer.
- Right click on that printer, and go to Properties and then click on the Ports tab.
- If you have a parallel printer, then select LPT1 from the list. If you have a USB printer, then select USB from the list.
- Press OK and then try printing your document again.

Ok, the tick was set on the printer so i assume that is my default printer, there is something else next to it, imaging device printer? Not sure what that is i only have one printer. Anyhow, how do i know if i have a parallel printer or USB printer as you mentioned in your post.

Re: Printing Problem
Difference between USB and Parallel: HP Deskjet Printers- What is the Difference Between a USB and Parallel Cable?
However, the name of the printer will match the name written on the front of the printer. It doesn't sound like you have even installed the printer Jmaster? Do you have the CD that came with the printer? If not, what is the make and model of the printer?

Re:Printing Problem
Hmm, can we unresolve this actually? Now whenever i log on and everything loads up about a few seconds after i get a blank bar in the taskbar for one second. (it only appears once that i know of after start up) I didn't have this until after i installed my printer again. Anyone have any idea why it is doing this?
I'm guessing i have to disable hp from start up?

Re: [Resolved] Printing Problem
Hey Jmaster,
I'm not sure I see the problem here. If it was after the full installation of your HP Printer, that sounds like your HP Toolbox starting up, and then a HP icon appear in your system tray at the bottom right hand corner of the screen:
The purpose of the HP toolbox is to provide easy access to additional printer functions such as ink levels and services. Are you sure you want to get rid of it?

Hp toolbox? The blank bar shows nothing it appears a few seconds after i log on. In the system tray is hewlett-packard digital imaging monitor and that doesn't load up right away with everything for some reason, takes a few seconds later to appear.
Hmm i am not sure, just noticed the thing after i installed my printer and the components (hp image zone and director)
The blank bar at the bottom doesn't seem normal
p.s what is that picture you posted of the printer, i don't have that or does anything look like that

Re: [Resolved] Printing Problem
Jmaster, remember I cannot see what you see, it sounds like you have a multifunction device as apposed to just a standard printer juding by your digital imaging monitor. Screenshots of your desktop may help (instructions on my signature), and you still haven't told me the make and model of your printer?
HP are a respected company. If your using the original HP printer setup CD, then you can be assured that it's not going to install anything untoward on your PC. A blank bar that appears for a short period of time in the taskbar and then appears as an icon in your system tray is perfectly normal. I only know this because as a programmer myself, it is not always possible to start an application immediately in the system tray. The application itself may need to load several components first before it can do so. In the meantime you will see it start in the taskbar. As I said earlier, I can talk you through removing these additional features if you are sure that you don't want them to start, but I cannot change the way they start.
If however, this is just a co-insidence, and this problem started around the same time, and your problems are not related to the HP install, then you may wish to rule out virus/malware issue. You can do this by starting a new thread with your HijackThis and AVG logs (instructions also on my signature).
If your not sure either way, then the quickest way is to uninstall your HP drivers, by going to My Computer, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Reboot your PC and see if the same thing happens. If it does, then it's malware. If it does not then it's the HP Software, and you can decide what option to take from there. There's nothing wrong with installing the printer again after that.
