Default "A" Drive running

My Dell Dimension 4600 has a floppy drive. During normal operations, I hear the drive trying to run and making a "grinding" noise. Why would my A drive be running at all? I am not copying files to it, or moving files from it.

Default Re: "A" Drive running

If the floppy drive is always running, confirm the data cable orientation.
The cable connection may be inverted.
