Exclamation Computer Reboots Every 5 Secs.

My father's computer is having a REALLY difficult time with us right now. Here's the problem: When Windows XP boots up and loads, whenever we try to go to Control Panel and see the Device Control, it reboots. Every time it does it, we re-install Windows XP again. Except this time, when it's done installing XP, it won't boot all the way. It just reboots when it gets to the desktop (you don't even get to see your desktop. It reboots before you have teh chance to do anything). We tried going into Safe Mode. It works fine there but whenever we boot in normally, BEEP! It reboots. Any help appreciated. Thx and have a great day!!!

P.S. He has an old computer. It has 512 MB RAM, 950 MHz Intel Pentium III Processor, a 40 GB Hard Drive, and a 4 MB AGP AND PCI (NOT PCI-EXPRESS) ATI Graphics Card. (Doesn't want to buy new one. Too expensive right now...)

Hi,

It sounds as though something hardware related may have given up. Do you have spare RAM that you could test? Does the PC have 2 RAM sticks...so that you could remove one and test?

It could also be a contact problem with the ram. Try removing all cards and RAM clean the gold color pins on the cards and ram with an eraser and put them back into the original positions and try boot it up again.
