Unhappy Compaq Armada 1750 Notebook crash. OS XP Home

A person I know pluged in a D-Link wireless card into his notebook. From what he said he received a screen message that his hard drive was going to be deleted. When he tried to reboot the computer all that would happen is that the Compaq screen would come up. Then nothing. I hooked the HD up to my PC and all the folders and files appered to be there. We decided that I would format the HD and reinstall the OS but neither XP or 98sr2 boot cd would load. I even downloaded a file from UBSD4WIN.com but no luck. The 98 cd would start to load and then stop. I have tried a boot floppy for, 98sr2 and and XP boot floppy I download from bootdisk.com but get a screen message that they are invalad system disks and to replace disk and press any key. I have also tried a Win95 boot disk which will bring me up to a A: promt. I did the dir. command and it will show me the files on the floppy and I can change dives to a C: promt but of course there are no directorys listed. All other drives are invalad.
I can't access the bios to set or check to see what the boot sequence for the drives are but I'm guessing the CD drive may not be configured properly or is lacking the drivers although the CD drive itself will spin-up when a CD is inserted. I tought about replaceing the hard drive but without the startup files or a Compaq boot disk I don't know if that would do any good. I'm thinking I may have to break down and download a boot disk from HP but it seems there should be a cheaper or less hassle site to get this from. Any help would most welcomed.

Welcome to PCHF,

Sounds to me like a BIOS issue. Try removing both the BIOS battery, notebook battery and the power cable on his PC for 5 mins, then replace both and try booting again...that is if you can get to the BIOS battery on that notebook?

I wasn't aware the BIOS chip had it's own battery. I'll check into to it though. When you say try booting again...I have to ask with what? A bootable CD or disk? Thanks for the reponse.

Just a thought... but is it possible that someone can flash a bios when their pc or notebook is trying to be accessed by a wireless notebook?

Sorry, I don't understand the question....are you asking about someone else on the wireless LAN being able to access the laptop to flash the BIOS?
