Hello xxnamxx Welcome to PCHF

Well, from your specs, I see two problems as far as playing high end video games. First off 1 gigabyte of RAM these days is on the low end for new games. If that is all you can add, that is fairly limiting.

Secondly, your video card is fairly low end for recent games. I see that it says 512 megabytes of display memory. However, I'm pretty sure that 384 megabytes of that is shared video memory. Only 128 megabytes of it is actually on the video card. The rest is being used by your RAM. So when you are playing a high end game, you actually don't have 1 gigabyte of RAM available, you really only have 640 megabytes because your video card is reserving 384 megabytes of your RAM for video purposes.

On top of the shared memory problem from that video card, its specifications are also going to be on the low end.

A quick fix that will help you is to just get a nice high end video card. But that isn't going to help incredibly much in the long run. At some point, you are just going to have to get pretty much a new computer if you want to keep playing newer high end games.

You should really check your motherboard specs though. 1 gigabyte RAM maximum on a motherboard that supports a Pentium D chip doesn't sound like it makes sense to me. You should be able to add at least 2 gigabytes of memory.

If you can get 2 gigs of RAM and a better video card that uses dedicated video memory, then you should be in good shape for a while.

Lowering the shared memory, aside from me not knowing how, probably will lower your performance even more, as the video card won't have as much memory available to use for rendering.

Your motherboard supports up to 2GB of memory. As I'm fairly sure you have 2 sticks of 512MB per stick, here's what you'll want to get:

Newegg.com - WINTEC AMPO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

As for a video card, this would be a wise choice:

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100114 LB Radeon 9250 256MB 128-bit DDR PCI Video Card - Retail

Edit: I made an error in the RAM type, so I changed it. If you viewed it shortly after I posted this, please recheck that you're looking at the Wintec RAM and not the Crucial RAM.

Edit2: Mistake in Video card... Make sure you're viewing the PCI card and not the PCI-e x16.

You can only do that if you have a PCI Express x16 slot on your motherboard. I'm, not sure that you do.

I was giving you Newegg results because your country is listed as the United States.
