Ok. So I'm browsing youtube, when all of a sudden, my pc freezes. A rare occurrance, to say it's an old machine. But I've made it half workable, so its been good to me.

I restart the thing. And when it normally beeps once, (when it shows up the Tiny logo on screen) it doesnt do it this time. Also the screen doesnt turn on by its self. So i turned it on manually, and I had the no signal input sign sat in the middle of it.

I hope its not broken for good. But ive been told it might be either the hard drive is dead, or the motherboard!

Any suggestions/confirmations about this?

The hard drive won't be anything to do with it.

Do you get any beeps at all when you get no signal?

I would check the cable and if not try it with another monitor, if that doesn't work it could be either a graphics card or motherboard issue or possibly RAM but that would cause continuous beeping.

Tried swapping out the RAM sticks, tried it with just one stick, with the other one. Tried taking out the graphics card and reseating it. Tried taking out the hard drive interface cable and power cable. And they all have the same effect. No signal input, and no beeps from the tower.

Ive also tried taking the cable out of the switchbox that i use and plugged it directly into the tower.

Did you check for bent/broken pins in the connectors?
Maybe grasping at straws... but if not it
sounds like a dead video-card or monitor.

Here's my generic hardware help speech:

I suggest-- when you repost-- go into "My PCHF" under site navigation under "edit options" --scroll down the list.List all your hardware with brands in the spaces-- at the top-- there is an option to "allow others to view my specs" click on yes. It saves a lot of time between posts if while you check something I can go look up your mobo manufacturer's site and read the manual.
You can also list your OS...all this is a great time-saver for us-- we can view everything quickly to refresh our memories... as we are all working multiple threads at once. This would be automatic from that point on-- so if you have another problem six months from now-- we can instantly know what you have.

No I didn't check for broken connectors. Will do though. And I have someone who'll give me an unused monitor to see if its mine thats screwed. I'll be happier if the monitor's the problem as I've been looking to buy a new one
