Default PC wont switch on, don't know whats wrong so didnt know where to post

Hi there

My OC wont switch on, I have touched the 2 switch wires together, this does not work so it is not the switch, I have changed the power supply but this did not do it and in any case the mother board light was on so it must be working. I have tried pulling out each of the components, vid card, sound card HDD etc one by one but it wont switch on.

Now I beleive that it is either the mother board (most likely) or the CPU but I don't iknow how to tell which for definate, I can see no burn marks on either. I am keen as mustard not to waste any more money, could anybody advise how I can figure out how to fix this or know which of the 2 it is.

Thanks ever so much for looking.

Ern

Sup Ern, welcome to the site.

Ok, so it's a self build right? Let's start with the stupid q's...

Did you double check the headers on the motherboard? You know, PWR SW, HDD, etc... and make sure they are all secure. Did you try turning them the other way around also?

Hey Hengis thanks for the quick reply.

Yea I checked all the headers pulled them off and back on, I didn't turn them around but it has been working for years and nobodys been fiddling with it to turn them the wrong way.

Yea it's a self build a long time ago, how'd you guess.

Some PSU's have a "crowbar" protection if they short - usually pulling the power cord for 5 mins will reset this..does your have that?

I have no idea if this is the case but the power supply has been out of the machine for longer than 5 mins and it still don't switch on.

Sorry, I meant that the power cord has been out for longer than 5 minutes and in any case there is a brand new power supply in it now.

Thanks

Ern
