Default really loud fan

Hey,

I've got a stock Sony Vaio VGC-RB54G, and the fans in my computer are going absolutely nuts!! I'm pretty sure that it's my cpu-fan of the three that is the one responsible.

So, at the bare minimum processor capacity I can get (5%) my fan isn't so so annoying, but it still bugs me quite a bit. When I'm running background tasks and running macromedia flash, the cpu can be at like (30%) and I cannot concentrate well when it's like that, and you need concentration for animation. But, whenever I play a game (~50%-60%) that's when the fans really bug me, its non-stop, and very very irritating. I can even hear the fans form the other side of the house. On the rare occasion when I max out my cpu, the fans become so loud that I have to leave the room and go down the hall untill they go down to a bearable level.

So I believe I've made my case clear, I'm looking for a solution such as a driver that will lower my fan rpm, reduce my cpu outage requirement, or the model of a cheap, much quieter fan that I can find in France.

For people who can't recognize the model number:
It is a Sony Vaio
Pentium D
1 GB Ram

running Windows XP Media Edition SP: 2

Thanks in advance.

It sound to me like you've got a lot of dust in and around your fan. Have you opened your PC once or more since you own it?
Try to remove the dust, this may help...it helped anyway at a friend's computer...

yes I have, I used a duster, I blew dust out, and I even got a dust vaccum in there. It worked for about 2 minutes, I tried going into a memory-intensive program and then it came on loud as can be. This was about 3 months ago.

However I live in a 200 year old house in France, and due to the fact that my computer is black I find dust on it almost every day, I will do it once again.

Is there some sort of make-shift filter I can use to keep dust from entering the computer on the back. Like a very fine piece of linen, or a dust rag.

I have also tried removing the cpu fan and dusting around that, but it wasn't so easy. Pentium D fans are different than the one's I know how to remove. I took the fan off, did the best I could, I even tried cleaning out the heat-sink, but there was some sort of sticky goo in between it and the cpu, so I put it back.

But I gave eberything the best cleaning I could give it.

I cleaned out my PC again, just as noisy as ever, but I realized that I had forgotten a few details about the state of my cpu fan. I remembered that I was not able to actually seperate the fan and the heat sink form eachother, but in between them there is actually soem sort of fuzz that I can not remove all around the top of the heat sink, which is obstructing air from passing through into the fan.

Ok, removing dust don't work. Do you have any idea how hot your CPU gets when you use it intensively? A good program for this is Speedfan, you can download it here (it's free btw):
http://www.almico.com/speedfan432.exe
See how hot your CPU gets and also post the fanspeed. I don't know what a proper fanspeed is but I'm sure others know it...
