Unhappy [Pending] Random crashes

Hi all, my first post and hopefully my last where I'm seeking help.

This problem has been happening for a while now. Whenever I start my computer from a fresh boot, all applications, be it games, office, internet, crash at regular intervals. However, the crashes stop after a straightforward restart.

It goes without saying it can get annoying having to boot up and restart before having any sort of continuity of use on my system.

My knowledge of computers is ok but not superb so any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks guys

Welcome to PCHF... what version of Windows are you using?
Vista Home Premium, XP Pro?

Exclamation Update

Just had another crash, but more serious, and this isn't the first time this has happened. The computer restarted without warning and when it loaded back to Windows, it said that it had "recovered from a serious error".

I sent the error report and i was automatically linked to a page on Microsoft's website.

Referring to a stop error? I have no idea what this is and it's caused by an unknown device driver. I've attached a screen shot!

Please help!

You could have a memory (RAM) problem. This link will take you to a MemTest download and review - RAM reliability tester from SnapFiles.

Follow the instructions.
Run it for at least 24 hours. The longer the better.
You can continue to use your computer while it's running.

If there is not problem, then it will just continue to run until you stop it.

Good Luck...

Default Update

Ran the RAM tester as recommended for the recommended duration but no errors were found and crashes are still occurring. When the Microsoft error page was loaded after a 'stop error' it cited an unknown device driver. Any way of establishing which device driver might be faulty?
