Well, that cleanly rules out HDD problems Sam. All that is left is the cd (unlikely), the CPU or motherboard.

Hi, good news, i have just fitted the cpu, and formatted the hard drive and installed windows again and to my amazement it hasnt restarted yet. i am really glad for the help i got on here and will use my knowledge to help others on here! thanks again.
also, when i fitted the p3 cpu i didnt put and thermal paste on and was wondering should i apply some?

Hi Sammo, great news.

It's not absolutely necessary, but I would recommend it. If you don't plan on using it, make sure your CPU is cool enough. Check your CPU temp using |MG| Free Download - EVEREST Free Edition 2.20

The maximum temps of P3's is normally is between 65c and 70c.

The purpose of thermal grease is to help conduct the heat between the heatsink and the CPU. Air can sometime trap between the two, and air is a poor conductor of heat.
