Default [Answered] xp page file question

I have 2 gigs of ram in my machine. I have two 80 gig sata non-raid drives going with the OS on C drive with "no" page file and the F drive is set to 2mb minimum and 3069 Max.
Is this correct?

I noticed that for what ever reson my harddrive activity starts to go nutts while playing Battlefield i get video lag.

When i disable the pagefile on "both" drives the harddrive activity stops and the lag issue is gone.

But the problem with that is some of my other programs like Photoshop blow errors with "0" pagefile.

What should my page file be set at?

asus p4p800vm
p4 3.4ee stock
2 gigs ddr 400 king.
BFG 6800gt stock
audigy zs
2x 80 gig seagate sata

we *just* had this conversation in here, like yesterday. Below is an excellent link, with a tutorial on how to set up a monitor that you already have on your pc for the page file.

The Windows XP Page File

let me know if that helps.

Thanks!

Well thats realy no help but thxs for the responce. Iv seen the 1000 pages of "set it to 1.5 x the amount of ram the machine wich would be 3gb. Wich seems to me way to large and it swops so hard sometimes my pc stutters in directx aplications. And if u think about it it should stutter like a mofo with a pagefile that large.. I think the "1.5x" deal aplies to machines with 1 gig or less

Is there not a chart saying if you have x amount of ram in a pc what to set the pagefile to?

And if knowbody here"really" knows what to set the pagefile to with 2 gigs of ram then just say so.

yes, there is a chart. However, it states that if you have x amount of ram, you should allocate 1.5*x as your page file.

Mind you, this is not a set in stone rule. I know people that have 20 gig page files; the thing they don't understand is that it's still a page file, stored on the hard drive, and as a result, operating at the hard drive speed, not the electronically refreshed speed of ram. No matter how you slice it, the page file is going to be both further away from the processor and running on hardware that is thousands of times slower than the ram. Only two solutions are to get more ram, but if you are already at 2 gigs you only got 1 more to go, or move to 64 bit OS such as vista.
