yes, there is a chart. However, it states that if you have x amount of
ram, you should allocate 1.5*x as your page file.
Mind you, this is not a set in stone rule. I know people that have 20 gig page files; the thing they don't understand is that it's still a page file, stored on the hard drive, and as a result, operating at the hard drive speed, not the electronically refreshed speed of
ram. No matter how you slice it, the page file is going to be both further away from the processor and running on hardware that is thousands of times slower than the
ram. Only two solutions are to get more
ram, but if you are already at 2 gigs you only got 1 more to go, or move to 64 bit OS such as vista.
