Default PC will not power on, no POST

Let me start with a little background on the PC. I built it around January and hadn't had any problems until now. The other day I turned my PC off, and went out of town for a couple days. When I came back it wouldn't power on at all. No beeps, no fans, the power supply never turns on.

I checked all the basic stuff, power cord, power outlet. I opened up the case and saw the green led on the motherboard was on, so it was getting some power. I swapped the reset and power switches and even tried a power switch from another computer, but still nothing.

I then reseated all the pc cards, memory and cables. Still nothing.

I figured it had to be something with the power supply or motherboard, so I RMA'd the motherboard, and rebuilt the machine with only the CPU, power supply, power switch, and speaker. Still no power, no fans, no beeps. I took out the CPU, and the empty motherboard with just the power supply and power switch will not power on at all.

I then thought the power supply must be bad, so I took it out and shorted the PS_ON pin and the power supply fan came on. I measured all the voltages: 3.3V = 3.39V, 5V = 5.1V, 12V = 12.4V, and the grounds were 0V. These seemed close enough to me, not terribly over or under voltage.

So what else is there left for me to try? I'm going to see if I can RMA the power supply, or find a cheap one to test with, but I'm really out of ideas. Thanks for any suggestions.

the system specs:
AMD 64 X2 4400
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
2gb DDR 400 (PC 3200)
evga 7800GT
soundblaster x-fi

Hi loboVT, and welcome to the PCHF. I'm sure we'll be able to help solve this solution - at least give you some ideas.

Can you please tell me what brand power supply you have, and how many watts?

Hey!

Welcome to PCHF lobo!

Sounds like your computer is giving you quite a bit of trouble. I know how that feels. Anyway, someone will be with you shortly to help you out.

PraisJah - I think it's about 50/50

loboVT - Antec have had some recent bad reviews on their PSU's...it might very well be the Powersupply. If you do get a cheap one to test...just plug the motherboard in, and powerswitch and speaker (as you've done previously). Cheap power supplies are generally pretty low watt and your computer is a hungry hungry power eating monster.

That would be my first course of action with everything you've already done. PSU.
