Hi There

I think this would probably go better in the Hardware forum, so have moved it there.

A PC Fan is integral to a computer, it draws out the heat generated by the computers components. If you didn't have a fan, the computer would overheat.

Howdy cso.dave,
Agree with Bdude. As many fans as your case allows you should use. And when purchasing a new heat sink fan for your CPU you should always check for comparability ex.. socket 939 754 etc.. If it was not for a heat sink and fan for your CPU it would die within a week maybe even sooner.

I also suggest heat sinks for your ram as well. You'll get the most life out of all your products if you just buy some heat spreaders and heat sinks etc, and there not to expensive.

As for the noisy part some of them can be louder than a vacuum, but some of them are quite this is why some people get fan controllers to turn then fans up when your doing intensive PC work and turn them down when your not.

Let us know what socket you have we can point you in the right direction.

thanks for your replies, anyways, im kinda going in a new direction with this project, instead of getting a new fan, im gonna mount the harddrive on two rubber bands inside the case of the computer so it doesnt grind and make noise with the case itself. anyways, i was wondering how the hard drive is taken out, i see screws but i wanted to make sure that taking out the screws is the correct method. thanks

There are many inexpensive accesories to help quiet PC fan and other noises. A general rule is... larger diameter fans achieve quieter operation because they don't have to spin as fast to move the same amount of air.

I've used this site for info on this subject... reviews of hardware/techniques. Everything to turn it down-- including water-cooled PC's.
