I didnt post this in one of the sub forums cause it could consern CPU, Ram, or Mobo.

Im going to have to start from the begining... i originaly posted a question at other placess about the Ram on s754 auto clocking to DDR333 speed if more then 1 double sided DDR400 dimm was used... i found the answer to that question but it rose another, as follows....

threw info given to me at other placess, iv come to the conclution that the ram limitation issue is just normal operation for all s754 CPU's... due to the aspecs of the CPU's onboard mem controler.

I do need info or Help though with manual ram settings... I came across a guy who said he encountered the ram limitation on his gigabyte K8NS mobo, so he just manually o/c'ed the ram back up to DDR400 speed, and it worked fine on his board.... I wont to attempt the same.

However there are no mem settings in my Bios.... i looked at his K8NS manual as well threw the gigabyte website and his mobo has even Less O/c options then mine.... So how did he o/c the memory? please advise?

The o/c options in Bios list as follows...
-CPU Frequency
-CPU Spread Spectrum
-K8 CPU Clock Ratio
-Robust Graphics Booster
-then a bunch of diff voltage options for cpu, PCIE, DDR, HT-Link

Is there a Program Tool from AMD that you can install to controle the CPU's built in mem controller or something?

Hi, he didn't only raise the speed of his memory but also the speed of his cpu. Those two are 'locked' together. Raise the cpu frequency and the ram fequency goes up as well. This is called overclocking and is NOT recommended. It can damage your mobo, cpu, ram and more. The temperature of your cpu will icnrease so when you don't provide accurate cooling you'll experience a cpu meltdown.
cpu's can also start making 'mistakes' because they have to work harder then they are programmed to. When you change the setting and your computer doesn't boot, you have to clear the cmos (lose all your bios settings) and start all over again, hoping no hardware was damaged.
So, to overclock your cpu and memory you'll have to raise the cpu fsb setting and, you'll notice in the bios, the ram speed will also increase. I don't recommend overclocking when you don't ahve any experience, but you're free to try.

Maybe i was miss informed but someone on a different board told me that the CPU fsb and Ram fsb are locked, however... there is a mem divider that sets the Ram fequency ratio lower then the CPU depending on the ram speed used... example. DDR333 166fsb = 5/6

If figured there had to be something seperating them because im currently only able to test the board with DDR333 i have access to. i plan on buy DDR400 for it though.... however with the DDR333 installed, CPU Frequency is still listed at 200mhz with Clock speed 2.4Ghz... its a 3700+.

Even if i needed to O/c the CPU it would not be a problem because i have the Sycthe NINJA HSF installed on the CPU and my Max load temp is ~33C. Idle ~24C... I dont think O/Cing is the answer though because CPU FSB is already at 200??

So any aditional advice is very apreciated.

Can't you 'unlock' the cpu/ram connection. On most mobo's you can do this by changing the settings from auto to manual.

I dont see an option like that anywere in the bios, I dont have it up and running right know, only tested it on the bench the other day, but the manual shows all the same options... you can take a look for yourself, the Bios settings pages are near page 43 of manual linked bellow.

The guy who told me he had the K8NS has even less Bios options... so im trying to figure out how he Clocked his DDR400 back up to 200fsb speed if his bios doesnt have the options?

EDIT: thers only a few things left out on the online manual that i can see... but dont apply to my question.... they dont list /CPU voltage /PCIE voltage /HT link Voltage

EDIT2: Might it be possible for a Bios Update to add this option... or is it strictly Hardware dependent?

You can try to boost the cpu frequency as I said before, or try to load the 'top performance' settings.
A bios update can add some options to the bios though this is unlikely.
