I have two hard drives (master 160gb and slave 40gb) The master (Disk 1)is partioned as follows: C: NTFS, Status None, Primary and D: NTFS, Status Active, Primary

Disk 2: no information at all other than "BAD"

I have tried formatting it and partitioning it with partition magic but nothing happens.

What do I need to do to fix disk 2?

    Hello gumpsworthy,

    Welcome to PCHF.

If you using Windows NT, 2000 or XP, it has some partitioning tools itself. If you go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management and click on the Disk Management section. If you right click on Disk 1 (which should be your bad disk), you will have a few options to choose from here!

Why did you set D: as active? Was there a previous windows installation and something went wrong?
I suggest you use a program to reinitialize MBR -GDisk will be fine- and reinstall...having the active partition on D: can (and will) cause you problems
