Hi there,
I recently installed fallout 3 to my laptop and when i came to start a new game, the window crashed and an icon appeared saying there was a problem. The subsequent details to this probem were as follows "Files that help to describe the problem C:\Users\****\AppData\Local\Temp\WERF48D.tmp.hdmp" I have since attempted the following. (The stars /****/ signify the name of my laptop, which also happen to be my real name, apoligies for this).
1. Altering the graphics details on my desktop and the game to 1024 x 768 (this helped with a similar problem i had with Command and conquer 3, though that was on my old XP laptop, this one runs using vista).
2. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game (with up to date patches available in the pitt/op anchorage expansion pack).
3. Changing the graphics settings in the game on all quality levels.
4. Searching various forums for advice on this matter (including disabling visual themes and running as administrator in the properties of the fallout3.exe and falloutlauncher files).
Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated, i will stress that i am a complete novice in these matters and have no idea what i am doing!
Yours hopefully

A lot of the problems with Fallout 3 are sound related. You would expect the patch(es) to fix those problems.
Have you tried running Fallout 3 in Windowed Mode? Its in the Launcher options. Also disable all visual effects such as AA, Lighting, HDR etc...set everything to none. See if it works then. Also try updating your sound drivers or disabling '3D acceleration' or any advanced functions from within the Control Panel / your sound config software. Usually your sound card has a small icon which appears in the bottom right of the screen. If you are still having problems then do all of the above but also uninstall Fallout 3 and when you reinstall, choose to Install it to a different Location browse to somewhere like C:\Fallout 3 Installing into C:\Program Files in Vista can cause problems. Can you list the specs of your laptop? I assume it meets the minimum requirements. A quick test you can do is to go to Can You Run It? Powered by System Requirements Lab and select Fallout 3. If you fail any of the tests then you will not be able to play Fallout 3 Last edited by Amtech; 08-25-2009 at 07:22 PM. |

Thank you for your reply,
Having tried the above and failed (bar reinstalling it). I will now try reinstalling it into my d: drive instead. As for the test thing, the server appears to be down right now, my system is Windows Vista Home Basic Intel (R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3400 @ 2.16GHz 3.00 GB RAM Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Is this helpful?
