Okay, I have a very very similar problem to the guy who said he was having "Wierd errors" I can also get WoW to work, as well as Eve, and hellgate london. Anything else I try to get to work, even brand new games fresh installed do not work.
I reformatted back in may, because I was having this issue then, and my system had been going for like, 2 years, and I had just had to get a new graphics card cause my 7950 died, figured it was a driver conflict with the new card, and all that happy stuff, and I needed a redo anyway. I redid my system checked all my games with a minimum of windows updates and everything was hunky dory. (Games I have include oblivion, Quake wars, BF2142, assassins creed, and most recently sins of a solar empire.) I finished installing all updates and drivers etc, (I know I should have done them one at a time, and tested the games after, but they worked, I didn't think about it) and didn't really bother with them cause I was in the middle of a big long grind in WoW to get that all elusive new gear. Finally tried the games again a couple weeks later and nothing worked. I am fairly frustrated. Quake loads, gets to "Detecting input" and locks and then ctd's Assassins creed will give me the splash screen and then dies. SoSE and obliv just blackscreen and lock... I am able to alt-tab out of them... It's not a problem with my video card's hardware because I'm able to run two instances of eve at 1400x900 with maxxed settings and still have enough to run around the internet for different things. DxDiag locks about halfway through it's input scan, though the rest works fine, and ventrillo will run, and let me install new servers etc, but will also lock when I try running the setup. I thought it may be a problem with my logitech webcam's microphone interfering with my soundcard (because I got that around the same time as the new vid card) as that was one of the things that was installed after the games were tested to work, but I've since completely disabled, uninstalled, unplugged, and deleted anything to do with the camera and it still happens. I'll add a reply to this thread with my DXdiag on it. I also went through the compatibility mode, dep allow, and run as admin stuff that was suggested to the guy who said he was having wierd errors, and nothing of that sort works. I've run memtest as well, though admittedly not for the fully alloted time, which I'll do before I go to bed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Meh, I figured it out... It had something to do with human interface devices... I'd been messing with everything over the course of two days, and finally got everything to work... it was funny cause I was waiting for a game to load, hit ctrl-alt-del to close it because I knew it was black-screened, and then just as it tabbed I started seeing a splash screen... tested everything else, and it worked just fine too... I deactivated all my HID's other than my keyboard, dunno if it was a leftover from the webcam or what, but it works now. Thanks guys
