Hello there.

I have had some problems with a few games lately that I've wanted to play. When attempting to run Age of Conan and Braid, I get the following error message:

"The application failed to initialze properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application."

Note that I have never run these games before, this is right after installing each of them.

Now, I recently downloaded the Heroes of Newerth beta and wish to play it, but I get this message after opening it:

"C:\Windows\system32\d3dx9_40.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support." After I click okay on this, I get "K2-Fatal Error: Couldn't load vid_d3d9".

I have never successfully opened this game either.

I am an avid World of Warcraft player, and Warcraft runs perfectly fine. Just wondering what's wrong with my god awful computer ><

just a stab in the dark here, but have you tried right clicking it and selecting Run as administrator?

Very good suggestion by Smokeycheech............

I have tried to run it as admin, yes. Just to be safe I attempted to run all 3 games just now as admin again, still the same thing.

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
2. Click the Advanced tab. Then, under Performance, click Settings.
3. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
4. Click Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only to select the OptIn policy.

I did all of that, but was unable to select anything that said "OptIn" anywhere. After completing all of it (minus the OptIn part) I restarted my computer and tried playing the games and the errors still occurred.

Is it possible this has to do with me having 32 bit vista and these games only working for 64 bit? Or does that not make any sense?
