Serious PC Game Lag- No Clue Why?

I have been trying to play some pc games on my computer but not only is it incredibly slow, but the sound stutters and repeats as well. It is almost impossible to try and play these games at all on my computer. This has happened to me in 2 games- Bioshock and Left 4 Dead, yet I have been able to play Fallout 3 with no serious problems. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 motherboard with 2 GB Ram, Pentium 4 Processor, 160 GB Hard Drive and an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Video Card for PCI. I just recently added a fan over the CPU, thinking it could have been due to overheating, but I still got the same issue. I have checked the system requirements for these games and I have either met or exceeded the requirements, yet still continue to experience problems. Could it be caused by the sound card, or something else completely different? Please help!

Welcome to the Forum NinjaPh33r!!

While overheating may play a part in your troubles, I think there may be some other issues involved.

Two things.. please download and run Speedfan from my signature.. it will show you temps, yes, but also CPU usage.

In addition, please check in on the Prework link, also in my Sig. Run those programs, just to be sure that there aren't some things running around in your system that shouldn't be there.
