Default Far Cry 2 Installation Problem

I bought far cry 2 this morning and came home to install it. So I did the following: closed all programs>inserted disk>selected INSTALL. After the first part of the installation had completed (before they asked for my CD-Key), I noticed that nothing was happening and I had a far cry installation window that would not close (it was the background of Far cry 2). So I closed this using the task manager and tried to open the game and nothing happened. I went into program files and deleted the "Ubi-soft" folder from my HDD. Then I checked my control panel, add or remove programs and reuninstalled it there. Now whenever I insert the disk to try and install it again it comes up with "Would you like to uninstall". I click yes and it does its job then closed the window. It does this every time I try to reinstall the game.

Currently the action I am taking is defragmenting my HDD (as I write this, the defragmenting continues and I don't know if this will work)

specs:
-Windows Vista Home Premium *32 bit*
-2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo
-3 GB ram
-DX 10

Can someone please tell me how I can resolve this problem.

Hello Farcrychaos, Welcome to PCHF!

I have done a bit of research and it seems a lot of people have issues with the game freezing during gameplay (myself included) but not much info on freezing during installation.

I will mark this as open to encourage the more intelligent among us to have a look

I am sure we will be able to help, thanks for your patience,

Smokeycheech

Hello Farcrychaos and my Welcome as well!

I have little gaming knowledge but would like to suggest that you try a registry cleaner to clear any leftover installation information.

Download and scan with CCleaner
Download CCleaner 2.21.940 - FileHippo.com
1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation. IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbar-free Basic or Slim versions instead of the Standard Build.
2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
In the Windows Tab:
• Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
• Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
• Clean all entries in the "System" section.
• Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
• Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
• Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
• Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Now click on the "Registry" button toward top left.
8. Click on the "Scan for issues" button toward bottom.
9. Once scan is complete click on "Fix selected issues" button at bottom right.
10. A little box will pop up asking if you want to backup changes so click "Yes".
11. Click "Save".
12. Click "Fix".
13. Click "Exit".

I might suggest that next time you reverse the order in which you remove things - Use Add/Remove Programs to Uninstall AND THEN go back and delete any remaining folders.
