im at wits end here. i used to play FFXI online about 4 or so years ago. i stopped for reasons im not going into, but now i have FFXI fever. i bought FFXI again, and actually getting quite excited about playing it again (yeh im 20, getting excited about a game isnt good, but i dont care, shush).

on my old pc, it worked a dream. graphics were nice, no lagg, just good. now, i have a much better PC (i think i put some of my PC specs somewhere on my profile). BUT, it does not work properly (im computer iliterate, so bare with me. also, do you notice i speak in brackets alot )

here is my problem, i will explain as much as i can for people who dont play or havent played FFXI. to play FFXI, you have to login to something called 'Playonline viewer'. here, you can start up FFXI. once ive clicked on the game, it then loads up, simple.

but i noticed something didnt seem right from when i played it on my old PC years ago. the opening cinematic was choppy. so i thought to myself, hmmm maybe the opening cinematic isnt working properly, no worries. but then the main menu appered, my heart sank (the main menu lets you choose your character or log out. it shows you random moving camera views of locations in FFXI). the main menu was also choppy. also, the character creation was choopy, the in-game cut-scene was choppy and gameplay is choppy.

here is my explanation of what choppy is: every 0.7 of a second, the game will 'freeze' for about 0.2 of a second, then unfreeze to where it should be, only to freeze 0.7 of a second later. this happens non-stop, never speeding up or slowing down. on my old PC, it worked fine. i will also note that the sound stays the same.

ive updated my drivers to the lasted update, but this problem still persists. ive even downloaded a windows vista 'friendly' version of the PlayOnline Viewer, and still this problem persists.

this has happened ever since wednesday morning. ive contacted playonline (who run FFXI), and all they say is to update my drivers and try the 'friendly' windows vista version of the playonline viewer (Playonline is notorious for not being helpful for technical issues, which is why im here ).

i hope someone here has the answers i need. i really want to play this game again . i can physically play the game, its just this choppyness (just made that word up) is completely ruining the experience.

in the prework thread of yours, you asked me to uncheck boxes. should i check these boxes again after the scans have complete?

Let those boxes remain as they are.. what it shows and tries to fix will show more to our Security Staff.. they are the only ones to make posts and recommendations regarding your issue. No one else.. including me.

ONce they give the alll clear, if there is still an issue, then we can get the Techs involved to make sure you are well cared for!

RAM issue.

see, vista has a bunch of useless bells-and-whistles thrown in to irritate the living hell out of those of us who care about our computers. Vista eats up ram, and FAST (unless of course, you're like me and disabled all that useless BS)

2gb of ram disappears as quick as a plate of twinkies at the weight watchers meeting.

Get 4gb of ram, and that should clear it right up. If it doesn't then its back to the drawing board
