Are you sure this isn't happening after a certain time into the game?

It sounds like it is rather than it being triggered by certain scenes in the game. A test would be to leave the game running, start a new game and leave it for ten minutes or however long you think you play before the error occurs.

Also when you say a PS/2 adapter for your USB mouse doesn't work that leads me to believe that you have a low power supply, maybe that is causing the errors although I'm not sure how it could.

Do you have problems if you plug lots of USB devices into the PC? Self powered ones, such as USB card readers or self powered hard drives.

You may want to consider upgrading your power supply if its a low wattage. A low wattage would be 300-400W.

It might help to unplug any non-essential USB devices while playing the game since they could be causing fluctuations in the power supply.

Then what does this mean? I thought you were saying that your PC can't power the USB mouse through PS/2.

I spose its worth a try but I thought that fix was only for the audio files? Of course it may fix the problem, you have nothing to lose.

As for the PS/2 being the problem I don't see how it could be, unless you have somehow damaged the ports at the back. PS/2 devices normally only stop working if they're unplugged and don't start working again until you re-connect them and restart the PC.

You could look into a USB joypad, you can get one for around £6 on ebay. Or I read on that link you posted that formatting the PC sorted the problem.

I had a network problem totally unrelated to this where I had no internet connectivity even though it was all supposedly working fine. Formatting fixed it.

You should make sure you have the latest updates from Microsoft and in particular the .NET runtimes and I think you need something called Visual+ CC Redistributable.

Also, it might be worth a try clicking Start > Run > Click OK

Type in sfc /scannow (note the space)

You will need the XP CD in the drive. If there are any corrupt or modified system files that will fix them.

Have to say its a very strange problem and I'm running out of ideas.
