Hi all... I click on Half-Life2, (episode one). Popup says connecting to my account at Steam. This is good. Another popup says preparing to launch Half-Life2 Episode One. This is good also.......That's about as far as I get. An hourglass appears next to my arrow, and the system freezes up. (Watching task manager, system performance, the progress just stops.) Can't do anything after that, except manually turn off, and restart. Have to sit thru the disk check, and then back to my main screen. All other function seem to work, except games (web access, doc files, pictures - all OK). I tried to load Doom3 from an original disk... same thing. Somewhere during the loading up process, the system just freezes up.
HELLLPPP! My kids miss playing games with me, and I'm jealous watching their computers load and PLAY the SAME games!!

@ QDoc, my welcome to PCHF as well. Let's see what we can do to get you back to playing games with your kids before they grow up.

I want to rule out malware as a culprit before we do anything else, it fits a lot of the trouble you are having, and if it is malware it will save us a lot of time troubleshooting.

So if you would please follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, and post back with the results, we will have the Security Team take a look and start from there.
