Hey all, have a nasty problem here.

Last year I purchased my HP dv9000 notebook with a few goodies to make it run games better. I have a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS, Intel Core 2 Duo's running at 2.1GHZ, 4G of ram, dual 7200 rpm harddrives, and I'm not sure what system board (how do I find out?). When I first got the notebook, it ran everything I asked it to, and ran them nicely. Crysis and Bioshock ran on high with no problems. WoW and CS:S ran perfectly too. I stopped playing WoW for about 6 months and focused on CS:S (which still runs great.). My display had some issues so I sent the comp in to HP for serviceing, and had the system board replaced. A few months later, the comp still runs great, but I just started playing WoW again and I'm having serious framerate issues. My latency is fine as well as my memory usage, but my framerate never goes above 25 no matter what settings I use. I'm sitting at about 45% CPU usage and 50% memory when the game is running in a demanding area. I cannot figure out what my problem is. I've reset my router and modem, still didn't help.

Any suggestions? This is frustrating me to no end! Sorry if I posted in the wrong area

Hi asphaltcbwy and welcome to the PCHF.

lets try to narrow the possibilities down a bit...

when you say:
" I cannot figure out what my problem is. I've reset my router and modem, still didn't help."

do you mean that you get low FPS only when playing online? Or is it in single player too?

As for finding out all your system specifications have a look here:
http://www.pchelpforum.com/new-membe...r-pc-spec.html

Please follow the step by step to add your system specifications to your "user CP", then we can start looking at other possible causes (like drivers)

I've played WoW for about four years ( since release date). And if you look carefully, Blizzard updates the system requirements with each major patch, as well with each expansion. If you haven't played for around six months, you quit playing before Wrath of the Lich King came out, correct? However odd it may seem that your computer can run Crysis on high, it's not uncommon from what I've seen for it to be unable to run WoW on high in dense areas.

A few tips that I can give you, are to try lowing your resolution a click or two, turn down the terrrain settings ( foilage ect.) As coupled with high population, it can cause the game to lag. Framerate is very, very rarely an internet connection problem, so while it never hurts to try, it rarely fixes it.

Also, if you have a ton of addons that can severely hinder your performance, I know some people who would be glad to get 25 in major cities, but is that 25 FPS carrying over to more sparsely populated areas? ( Low level questing zones for example. )
